Georgia Sampaio
Student - Stanford Class 2020 | Assistant AI Researcher
Georgia Gabriela Sampaio is a Computer Science undergraduate student and research assistant at Stanford University. While in high school, Georgia's interest in Bioengineering led her to develop a research project that proposed the development of non-invasive diagnostic methods for endometriosis. This project was recognized at venues such as Harvard Social Innovation Collaborative Village to Raise a Child and Jovens Inventores. She was accepted into 9 elite universities and chose to attend Stanford. At Stanford, Georgia continued to pursue Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering in her first two years, studying the production of proteic scaffolds (VLPs) that can be used in the development of Zika and HIV vaccines. Noticing how computer programming could improve the precision and efficiency of her experiments, in her junior year, Georgia decided to study Computer Science, focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Computer Systems. The most recent work Georgia has contributed to is focused on automating plan composition classification - a study of code that aims to uncover the programmer's mental models and goals, and that can help educators and researchers alike more efficiently asses student's knowledge and understanding. A first-generation college student from a low-income background, Georgia has been able to create and chase opportunities unheard of and unseen in her community. Her main goal is to apply her excitement for science and engineering to tackle problems in health care and education that most affect her communities.
